Movie Marketing: You're Doing It Right

For those of you who don't know, Disney and Pixar have created a sequel to Monsters Inc. called Monsters University. The movie isn't set to come out until June 2013, but the Disney company has already worked on marketing it. There was already a lot of hype about the trailers that were released, but now Disney and Pixar have added something else to their marketing scheme: a website for Monsters University. Now I'm not just talking about the movie. The companies have created a university website complete with information about professors, alumni, and even financial aid. There's even a store where you can buy actual Monsters University merchandise. I believe that  Disney and Pixar have raised the bar for movie marketing. The site is already viral. This is one of the reasons why my ultimate goal is to work for Disney. Their advertising creatives are top notch. I really, really hope I get to be part of their team one day. Until then, I gotta start small. Hooray for being a server at Studio Movie Grill.

Wreck It Ralph

So I haven't seen or heard much about this new Disney movie coming out in November (or maybe there's been stuff and I haven't been paying attention), but I remember writing something about it in my Disney brand audit project. It's called Wreck It Ralph and it's basically about this guy named Wreck It Ralph who's tired of being a bad guy in his video game. So he goes game jumping in an attempt to try and play the hero. It's a really cute concept. There's going to be some appearances of famous video game characters like Eggman from Sonic, Bowser, and the ghost from Pacman. I think I'm probably going to go see this movie when it comes out. I feel like it's been a while since Disney has released an original movie instead of releasing old movies in 3D. Actually, I take that back. It's been a while since Disney released an original movie that was worth looking into. I think there was that one movie, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, that came out in August. I wasn't really super interested in that. There's another animated movie coming out that's directed by Tim Burton called Frankenweenie. I've never watched a Tim Burton film before so I dunno. From most of what I've seen, he's not really my cup of tea. But I dunno.
